Cinco Ocho closes it out

Papelbon took the mound with a few extra runs of insurance and didn't disappoint. A 1-2-3 9th secured the victory for Josh Beckett who had everything working for him. Beckett pitched very well going 8 complete giving up only 1 run on 4 hits. The win moves the Red Sox 4 behind the idle Rays, and 5 ahead of the losing Yankees. Considering how well Danks was pitching, this win was a steal for the Sox.

win is a win at this point, first 6innings weren't great offensively, but they woke up and did what they had to do.

the pitching was ideal, starter went 8 and handed it off to pap, no need to get the rest of the bullpen involed. I like it.

Agreed about a win is a win is a win...but you can't say you didn't have a terrible feeling after the 6th inning. Thank god they woke up and came through with few timely hits. I think hitting Ellsbury (and Jacoby's base stealing ability) rattled Danks a little. JD and Lowrie have been some of the most consistent hitters of late (save for Pedrioa of course).

Oh..and Josh Beckett was straight cash. He could have easily been frustrated with the offensive struggles but he went deep in the game and didn't let a potential bridge to Papelbon let us down.

and now we come home to Fenway, thank god.
