Sources: Mo Rivera Initiated Talks With Boston

"According to multiple major league sources, Mariano Rivera’s representatives were the ones to initiate contact with the Red Sox in an attempt to get the team interested in the closer. While the Red Sox would ultimately make a two-year offer to Rivera, according to sources the team’s expectation was that he would be returning to the Yankees. The 41-year-old ultimately re-signed with New York, securing a two-year, $30 million deal."

Perhaps Rivera could see the tide changing.  Contrary to the popular belief that the Sox reached out to Mo, it turns out it was NY's savior who got the Sox involved.   I'm sure after witnessing Theo's dominance at the winter meetings, Rivera wishes the Sox had landed him.

I can't say I blame him though, you know the Yanks would never let this happen, so why not try to pump up your salary and term?

The Yankees will be paying Mo 15 million dollars when he's 43.....I mean, the guy is a machine, and the greatest closer of all time, but I just can't seem to rationalize that in my head.

Everyone Knock on Wood

While Theo and the Sox dominated the winter meetings, the Patriots were busy turning back the clock to 2007 and ruining NFL team's hopes and dreams, the Celtics established themselves as the best team in the NBA while winning 10 straight, and the B's are looking at a playoff spot.

Not to mention, everywhere else in the country is getting douched on with snow while Boston hasn't had any yet this season.

I fully expect to wake up tomorrow to news that the Revolution picked up Lionel Messi.

As a typical Bostonian, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.  Things are going too well and I'm a bit worried.  I didn't go to church this week, haven't donated to charity and yelled at an old lady who was taking too long when crossing boylston street this afternoon.

Plain and simple, I haven't done anything to deserve this, so I'm knocking on wood like crazy.

In what's turning into a theme in the 2000's, Boston is once again dominating the sporting universe, and we all need to do our part to keep it that way.

Carl Crawford: Working Harder Than You Since 1981

Gordo Edes had this as a late night post, and I must say, I'm impressed (granted, at this point, Carl Crawford could spit in a baby's face and I'd be impressed). The real CC is doing some crazy workouts, stuff I've never seen before.

Either way, this video tells me Carl Crawford means business, I can see him and Pedey battling it out in the weight room while Big Papi just saunters through at a slow pace eating chips and his salsa.

"I know what other people do, and they don't do this." I love it.

Signing Studs and Bashing Cashman, Theo Can Do No Wrong

It's just Theo being Theo.  Dominating the Winter Meetings while making fun of Brian Cashman (who currently has crap in his pants) while yucking it up with Millar.

You can see it in his face, he's on fire, and probably half in the bag from sinking two bottles of champagne in his hotel suite.

Quote of the winter meetings:  "[Bleeping] Theo," one GM said of Boston general manager Theo Epstein. "What a brilliant move."

I can't say I'm as on board with the current offer to Russell Martin (a more expensive Salty....with similar unknowns and concerns?).  Regardless, Theo dominates!

Also, random fact of the day:  The last time Carl Crawford was thrown out by the Red Sox when attempting to steal? 2004. That's right, 2004.  Tail is wagging.

We're All Excited About Crawford, But This Dude is Downright Scary

Look, I got a text last night at 12:02am from my brother with the Carl Crawford news and couldn't fall asleep until 2:30......but this dude didn't sleep at all.

Clearly he's in his mother's basement, and it's entirely possible that he has a small child chained up in a pit somewhere behind him. Either way, this guy scares the crap outta me.

So thank you, random scary basement living dude, I went from having a chubby about Crawford to being scared for my life.

.....and no, contrary to popular belief this is not T Murph.

PS: We may actually run a legit post with our thoughts on Crawford this afternoon, one of these days, we may get back to normalcy.

Pedro Martinez, Still Questionable....

Happy Monday: Arriba Bitches

What better way to start the work week than taking a look at the beautiful hitting mechanics of our newest Bostonian: Adrian Gonzalez (thanks to Sons of Same Horn for the video)....

Arriba Bitches.

Also, insert creepy line from John Henry here....

Seriously though, can he get anymore creepy/scary looking? Way to ruin the pic for the rest of Red Sox Nation John, you couldn't just let us bask in the joy that is Gonzo?
