Sox win 12-2 in an impressive victory

A few buddies of mine were discussing an interesting topic the other day. Who is the Red Sox stopper? Beckett? (It should be, but it’s not), Dice K? (in the beginning of the season yes, but not of late, nope it’s Jon Lester. Jon Lester started out with a shaky first inning but showed true maturity in his ability to settle down and scatter 7 hits over 7 innings of solid pitching while striking out 5 in tonight’s 12-2 win. Lester, (10-3), has not lost since May 23rd and has gone 7 or more innings in his last 5 starts. Lester is maturing into a front of the rotation starter right in front of our eyes and I love it.

This game was far from being all about Jon Lester however, this was a team victory (a phrase I haven’t typed in a while). Our lineup showed its true depth tonight with everyone getting a hit outside of Coco Crisp. Jason Bay continued to impress the Fenway faithful when he rocked a high and outside fastball off of the Volvo sign. Jed Lowrie broke the game open with a key three run double in the 3rd. Youk was perhaps the biggest story as his numbers continue to impress us all. His two homeruns (taters) tonight put him at 20 for the year, his four rbi run his season total up 74, and his batting average now sits at .313. I don’t think any of us saw these kind of numbers coming, naturally we continue to ask if he can keep it up as he is a second half “slumper”, but the longer he continues to hit, the more he shuts us all up.

It was a great team victory.
